2025 End-of-Year Review

As 2025 draws to an end, we would like to thank each and every one who has helped us this year, no matter how big or small, it is so appreciated.

With your help, we have managed to achieve the following:

  • Sterilisations done free of charge by TEARS Animal Rescue, who come and collect and deliver the animals home safely the same day:
    • Dogs: 57 in total, being 30 males and 27 females.
    • Cats: 28 in total, being 13 males and 15 females.
  • These animals all receive a free rabies vaccination too.
  • Our census reveals that we have sterilised 324 of the 379 dogs (85,45%) and 232 of the 245 cats sterilised (94.69%).
  • Vaccinations are done monthly by vet nurse, Kelly Spence, who kindly gives up her Friday off, once a month, to vaccinate and microchip our animals free of charge.
    • 332 dog and 156 cat vaccines were administered.
  • Microchips – we do an annual Mandela Day fundraising drive and have so far microchipped 256 animals. Our plan is to do all the sterilised dogs and then start on the cats.

We have had 10 dogs and 4 cats, plus 5 kittens surrendered. Besides the 4 dogs in foster care, they have all been rehomed with the help of Plumpets, Aid4Animals and Fallen Angels. Together, we can work magic.

Sadly, we have lost 6 animals having been runover.

City of Cape Town Law Enforcement uplifted 8 dogs that were biting people. Sadly, they were all put to sleep.

Another 22 dogs, 15 cats and 13 pups (due to Parvo virus), have all died/been put to sleep. Many of our oldies are at the end of their lives, and having worked in Westlake some 13 years, it is sad to see them go, but at least we do not let them suffer.

There have been too numerous to mention vet visits, and we wish to thank Steenberg Vet for being our backbone in this regard. We would be lost without you. Thanks to all the wonderful, caring staff.

SPCA who investigates all our cruelty cases -we really do rely on your input. Thank You for assisting us.

Bark Avenue Groomers in Lakeside – thank you for sprucing up many of our long haired hounds for the summer. We love that they are now free of their matts, and sweet smelling with a ribbon or two in their hair!

Our book sales continue to bring some revenue in, as does the Paws-A-While markets on the Sea Point beachfront.

From all the Fur-Get-Me-Knot team, we wish you a wonderful 2026 and please continue to follow us, and support us, where you can.
